Herring Quarterlies: The Original Herring Blog

Long before e-mail, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and other social media networks, there were the Herring Quarterlies. I think these can be referred to as the original Herring blog.

If a blog is a post created by an individual commenting on a particular subject of interest or even a form of self advertisement, then Herring may have been at the forefront of this new wave of communication. The first Herring Quarterly was printed in 1979.

The Quarterlies were consistent in both their size (7” x 9.5”) and their “consistently inconsistent” schedule for over thirty years. The subject matter includes family, friends, woodworking, churches, baseball, cameras, sailing, the art world, three nuns in a boat (you’ll need to ask about this one) and whatever else sparked our interest or curiosity.
