In 2017, Hunington Properties, Inc., one of Houston’s leading full-service commercial real estate companies, partnered with Herring for a comprehensive update of its brand. Our main goal was to modernize Hunington’s look and messaging while preserving and leveraging the equity its brand has accumulated over the 30-plus years the company has been in business.

Designed for Longevity

With most of its clientele in the greater Houston area, it was important for Hunington to be accurately seen as a leader in the local market while still having the opportunities available to them as a company with national reach. Hunington had recently completed an independent review of their company which we used as a foundation for the discovery phase of our brand update. We balanced the independent review with our own brand discovery, which included interviews with the Hunington team leadership and employees. We made sure our messaging showcased their vast experience in the market, the full range of their service offerings, and the cross-disciplinary nature of their various services.

Visual Identity

Hunington had built up equity in several components of its visual identity. We identified several cues associated with Hunington in the public’s subconscious: the diamond shape of its logo and the bright orange signs in front of their properties. We took the original logo and updated the shapes and colors for a stronger and bolder visual appeal. We also determined that the typography needed to be updated for a modern design aesthetic, and better recognition and legibility. As an extension of the new visual identity, we developed custom illustrations and design elements for the website that complemented the full brand.

We applied the new visual identity to various pieces of collateral: stationery, street signage, property fact sheets, digital brochure, and website.

Website

With the new visual brand language established, we were excited to have the opportunity to redesign Hunington’s website. The three major updates that we wanted to provide to the client, among other benefits, were: a sophisticated responsive design; a robust content management system (CMS); and an easy-to-use and update property listing component.

In the current real estate market, up-to-date listing information available at a moment’s notice is critical. Property details, directions, and broker contact information would need to be accessible from any device – desktop to mobile. Our attention to the responsive design made the searching process efficient and intuitive no matter the screen size.
